The whole
Kony 2012 campaign is quite confusing. Initially when the video first came out
I was instantly drawn to it, perhaps because of the reasons you point out. They
definitely used the right tactics to capture people's attention. Now that I've
done my research, I do believe that the Kony 2012 video is in fact misleading
as they oversimplify the issue and think that buying merchandise will help
bring a solution.

I also think
that a larger proportion of the money made by the Invisible Children should be
going to help the children instead of profiting the film makers. However, the
video has done good in a way because now many people know who this man is. The
video is selling the idea that you can change the world but than the
slacktivism approach becomes questionable. I don't think the video will help
capture Kony.

It's also
important to question whether he is still alive. Saying this, it is stupid that
the video thinks that capturing Kony will end all violence towards children in
Uganda. I'm sure there are probably hundreds more Kony's out there who are his
passionate followers. The truth to this reality is: there is no solution. That
is the truth.

It's like
saying that we can find a solution to poverty when in reality, no matter how
much money an organisation can collect and forward to these people, poverty
will never end. It is absolutely impossible. For example, the killing of Osama
Bin Laden did create relief for the victims and all those concerned, however it
will not end terrorism.

It is wrong
for the Invisible Children to be making T-shirts and other items with the face
of Kony on the front of it. It's like urging people who hate a serial killer to
wear something with a villains face at the front of it. Or make posters with
images of them. I think the Invisible Children went wrong their. And their
video is widely hated by the Ugandan communities.

The video
did not really reflect their lives and it made it look as though the Ugandan
authorities were almost powerless or not doing enough about the situation. The
video almost promoted the power of Americans, making us believe that they will
fix everything and provide a solution.

Others say
that this is a political strategy to get Americans into Africa for other
purposes outside of human rights. Apparently, Uganda has substantial natural
resources, including fertile soils, regular rainfall, and sizable mineral
deposits of copper and cobalt. The country has largely untapped reserves of
both crude oil and natural gas.

These are
the opinions of other people and it is important to take them into account.
There are a lot of interesting criticism out there which surround ideas about conspiracies
and propaganda. I'm really interested to see how everything will play out over
the next couple of months. I'm also looking forward to Kony 2012 Part II which
is coming out this week.

Apparently
it is targeted at critics this time and aims to take us deeper into the story
and the solution. I'm sure it will bring up a huge amount of responses. Let's
see how they go at handling these. Anyway I better be off now but I'd like to
say that I really appreciated you blog about why Kony 2012 was such a huge media
sensation.
